A quite rare screen for this kind of description. Painted in ink and color pigments on paper and gold leaf. He fairly accurately describes a theater scene in Ueno. The large number of characters and actors are very finely painted. All kimonos are very colorful thanks mainly to the pigments used. The spectators are in very different situations and we can see props, at the top left of the screen, quite amusingly, behind a curtain, observe the actors.
Ueno is a very lively district of Tokyo.
Origin: Japan. Edo period 19th century.
An original silk border frames the screen.
