This beautiful mirror was made in southern Italy during the 17th century. Its frame combines both an ornamentation with gold leaf (for the perimeter of the mirror and the plant elements) and a painted decoration imitating red and black marble, in trompe l'oeil. The practice of feigned marble decoration has been used since antiquity, and has known a renewed interest since the 17th century.
It is necessary to note some restorations of the polychromy.
