This beautiful bronze mortar was made in Germany during the 17th century. It is truncated conical in shape, adorned with two beautiful dolphin-shaped handles and decorated with four stylized acanthus leaves emanating from these handles. The mortar and its original pestle, in harmonious proportions, have a very beautiful patina. This one testifies to its initial use, i.e. an essential preparation tool in the context of the apothecary profession. A mortar with similar dimensions and handles can be found in Hermann P. Lockner's Messing, published in 1982. (p. 158)
