This ivory figure depicts an elderly person with a beard and fluffy hair. He wears a tunic, adjusted to his waist by a knotted belt, which loosely at the neckline reveals his bare right shoulder. Seized in full motion, our character, legs flexed, is getting ready to kneel. The position adopted by his arms and bust, turned to the right, as well as the old break in the lower right, attest that this figure once belonged to a carved group of greater magnitude. The refinement of the curls of the beard and the hair, searched and carefully chiselled, the force and the expressiveness of the face as well as the technical tour de force that represents the sculpture of the return of the coat in scarf running of the old man's left shoulder up to his right ankle, attest to the talent of our sculptor, most likely active in Spain in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century.
