Alabaster Statue of the Goddess Flore, Flemish, 17th Century

Flora is basically a Roman goddess who was given the name Chloris by the Greeks.
She is pursued by Zéphyr who marries her and gives her the gift of flower control.
She gives birth to spring. In Rome, the Floralia festival, in which the courtesans took part, took place on May 1st.
She is adorned with garlands of flowers and a wreath. She also carries here a woven basket full of flowers.
Flemish, 17th century
Base in original grey veined marble.
Measures: Height with base 43, statue only 38.
