This charming table with two consoles was made in northern Italy in the second half of the 17th century. It is characterized by its geometric lines and the elegance of the cut-out of its tray. Great attention is paid to details that are enhanced by the use of blackened wood, particularly for the « corbin beak » and some elements of the turning process.
This table has an attractive asymmetry that only underlines the authenticity of this piece. The visible differences between the balusters and spacers, faceted or round, of the two consoles, although intended to be joined, are demonstrative of the freedom of the craftsman and his workshop. Within the latter, the division of tasks sometimes offers us the discovery of plastic curiosities, of which this table is an excellent example.
