Tabernacle-shaped tempera on poplar board depicting a Madonna and Child, Tuscan school of the early 16th century.
The child, with abundant forms, sits on a column, next to the Virgin who supports him. His little hands seem to be looking for the mother's breast.
The Virgin, with her red hair gathered behind her head and her classic dress resembling a Roman tunic, holds an apple in her hand.
Behind the two characters, a landscape reminiscent of Leonardo, a tree and mountains in a boundless sky.
On the back of the panel, an autograph inscription by the Italian art historian Roberto Longhi, dated November 8, 1957, attributed the painting to Andrea del Sarto (1486-1530).
