Cristo Vivo in boxwood. Early 17th century.

A beautiful, high quality sculpture of the "Cristo Vivo" in boxwood. Christ is depicted at the final moments of his life, his eyes raised towards heaven. A single strand of hair is draped over his left shoulder, while the remaining hair is hanging in five S-shape curls over the back of his neck and shoulders. He is clad in a short loincloth, a patch at the back uncovered, revealing a "subligaculum" (some kind of Roman underwear).

Southern Netherlands or Southern Germany. Early 17th century.

Dimensions: H (with stand) 31cm ; H (du Christ) 24,5cm ; W (arms) 19,5cm

In very good condition, only with some tiny parts of the fingertips missing.

Presented on a custom-made stand.
