Picou Henri (1824-1895)
Henri Picou is a pupil of Delaroche. At the Beaux-Arts, he links with Gleyre and Gérôme, he gets the Prix de Rome in 1853. He exhibits at the Salon from 1847. He likes to paint allegories that he brushes in his huge studio on Boulevard Magenta in Paris as the fresco projects for Saint Roch Church and Notre Dame de Bon secours in Nantes. He also paints historical subjects and genre scenes. His painting is between the naturalism of Courbet and the intellectualism of Puvis de Chavanne, as shown by his most characteristic work, Allegory of Nature (1895), which can be admired at the Nantes Fine Arts Museums
