Holy Bishop in limewood - Tyrol - 15th century

Of beautiful stature, this wooden bishop, who could be Saint Nicholas, is represented standing. Dressed in his priestly garb, with deep folds, he holds the Holy Book in his left hand. Haired by a high bolster, he wears rings on his fingers and wears an ample and elegant hat.
From this sculpture emerges a deep bliss combined with a sweet melancholy.
Through the treatment of his soft face and benevolent gaze, the artist brilliantly transcribes all the majesty characteristic of Gothic statuary.
Some traces of the original polychrome and gilding are still visible.
