Very beautiful watercolor colors.
A brown trace in the lower right at the hotel des Monnoye. Lined on a Japanese paper conservation.
Very good condition for this rare big map of Paris.
Sheet size: 125 x 96.5 cm.
Engraving format: 121 x 93.5 cm.
Ancient moose map of 1778.
Large ornate title: above, on a cloud, allegory of the city of Paris, between standards; below, a muse, carrying a table where is inscribed "Paris Science and Fine Arts Stay", is surrounded by Minerva on the left and Mercury on the Right.
At the top of the shot, in the middle, is Paris, in each corner, with the exception of the cartouche, a Fleur de Lys.
The plan is richly illuminated with views representing the main monuments of the city.
On either side, the views are inscribed in an oval frame:
From top to bottom, on the left, place of Louis XV, Notre Dame, Saint Genevieve, Saint Sulpice, School of Law, Saint Gervais, Porte Saint Denis, Place des Victoires;
On the right, Place de Vendôme or Louis le Grand, Town Hall, Madeleine Church, Saint Eustache, Royal Academy of Surgery, Saint Roch, Porte Saint Martin, Place Royale.
At the top and bottom, the views are inscribed in large engraved rectangles.
From left to right: above, Ecole Militaire, Colonnade du Louvre, Palais des Tuileries, Hôtel de Ville des Invalides; downstairs, the Tuileries Palace, Royal Hotel des Invalides; below, royal palace and Opera, seen from Paris, Hotel de la Monnaie.
One of the most beautiful plans made under the reign of Louis XVI.
