A fine Carrara marble sculpture of an hourglass with columns with double balusters joined together by leafs . This sculpture is part of the "memento mori" philosophy whereby "Tempus fugit" (or "time flies") is typically employed as an admonition against sloth and procrastination. Initially, this hourglass was part of a larger architectural surrounding such as a chapel, altar or funerary monument.
