Stained glass panel of "The Destruction of the Temple of Baäl..", 16th C

A rare stained glass panel depicting "The Destruction of the Temple of Baäl and the Slaughter of his Priests, from King Josiah Restores the Law of the Lord" after an engraving by Philips Galle (°Haarlem 1537 – + Antwerp 1612) printed in circa 1569 and based upon a drawing by Maarten van Heemskerck (°Heemskerck 1498 – + Haarlem 1574).

Painted on glass in sepia brown, silver yellow and iron red. The outer lead frame is of a later date. The lead that connects the glass panels is original.

The Netherlands. Renaissance. Last quarter of the 16th century.
