Honfleur - Max Band (1900-1974)

An oil on cardboard measuring 35x27 cm (without its frame) representing the port of Honfleur signed lower left by Max Band (1900-1974)

Max Band lost his father at the age of three and his mother two years later . After a difficult childhood, he moved to Germany for three years (1920-1923) and studied painting in a free academy. In 1923 Max Band arrives in Paris. In 1926 he made his first stay in New York, where he was called an exhibition at J.B. Newmann Gallery. This will be followed by another at the Galerie Jacques Seligman in 1934, the opportunity to make a second stay in New York (1933-1934). He returns to France and will often visit Berlin. Max Band settles in New York as soon as the Second World War breaks out. He will be visiting Paris in 1950.
