Man head in bronze, Antique or after the Antique - Italy

This bronze head represents a bearded man with wavy hair wrapped in a thin bandage. Resuming here the physiognomic type of the ancient male deity (or the character of Greek-Roman authority), this face, of great strength and particular acuteness, bears the mark of a bronzier famillier art of this period.

This fragment could thus have been realized at the beginning of the XVIth century, in the context of the Italian Renaissance which puts back in the honor the Antique culture through the rediscovery of its texts, its technical know-how and its artistic creations. However, in view of the quality of this work, we can not exclude with certainty that it may be just one of these ancient creations, made about fifteen centuries earlier in the Mediterranean, collected by princes and amateurs of art since Carolingian times ...
