Inkwell Renaissance Bronze - Italy, 16th century

This beautiful Renaissance bronze inkwell, was certainly made in the entourage of the founder Giuseppe Levis in the sixteenth century as evidenced by a work of similar typology attributed to the botegga of the artist and preserved today at the Museo Nazionale di Ravenna . On these two inkwells, the receptacle has the shape of an antique crater, carried by three hybrid anthropomorphic creatures. These works testify to the know-how of the founders of Veneto in the sixteenth century, whose small bronzes are the delight of collectors of the time. Object symbol of erudition, our inkwell was to take place in the studiolo of an amateur, cabinet of public or semi private study, attribute par excellence of the humanist prince of the Renaissance.
