Head of Woman, Loire Valley First half of the 16th century

This head carved in tuffeau was probably made between Anjou and Touraine, the extraction of this limestone that sign the cultural identity of the Loire Valley through its innumerable achievements (castles, abbeys, sculptures ). The sculptor is here to give body to an ideal, that of the feminine beauty around the 1500s. The face, of an absolute oval, is full, marked by almond eyes surmounted by two eyebrows to the arcade perfect. The nose is straight, fine, the mouth small. Slightly ajar, this last breathes a moving feeling of life to our sculpture, which here captures the aspiration of our young wife, now the faithful in expectation, hanging on his lips while waiting for a word.
