Very large sculpture, in natural wood, representing Saint Martin, early 17th century
Here Martin, a Roman legionnaire, a figure of Christian charity whose history holds that he will share his coat with a poor man who is cold, because he no longer had any money having already distributed it generously to the poorest.
The supernatural figure of our Saint reflects all the grace, generosity and kindness that emanates from this character.
The all-wooden structure is finely worked, from the coat folded over the forearm, to the beggar, reaching out his hand to receive it, to the various details of the Roman legionary's clothing.
The craftsman, here anonymous, nevertheless demonstrates his know-how through different cutting techniques.
