Collinot found the diversity and energy of his decoration in his own pattern book Recueil de dessins pour l’art et l’industrie published with A. de Beaumont from 1859 and augmented until the close of the factory. The vocabulary of motifs used by Collinot on this vase is undoubtedly his favorite one. He chose the yellow background which confers only a smooth contrast with the color of the leaves and flowers. He used other tricks to strengthen the decorative power of this vase. Indeed he played with the relief of the cloisonné enamels and by using tin oxide he confers to the flowers a strong veracity. The peonies are lavishly assembled: this vase seems to be the place of a freed nature, inspired by extreme oriental art but also borrowed from various botanic manuals.
