'Faa' comb from Solomon Island. Melanesia
The 'Faa' large ornamental comb was reserved for men from central and northern Malaita Island.
Its positioning in the hair indicated the marital status of its owner.
A comparable copy is kept in the collections of the Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac under inventory number 71.1883.66.15:
"Ornamental comb found in men's hair. Its curved shape follows the shape of the head. Passed on from one generation to the next, the know-how required to produce this object is the prerogative of a few experts. "
