Red walnut wood

The present statue definitively typical of the 14th century is sculpted in the round in a red walnut wood.

The saint is shown standing with a globe in his right hand and a phylactery flowing towards the sky on the other one. During the Middle Ages and Renaissance times, the globe was the symbol of the Holy Trinity and later on of the earth.

The bearded figure with a sloping face, large curling hair and delicate features, reveals a kind of spirituality with a slight restraint. The drapery of the clothes, the refined details and the elongation of the figure support the idea of a 14th century french sculpture.
