Walnut
Excellent state of preservation

Made of walnut moldings, this chest consists of certosina decorations representing, on the front and on the sides, friezes of flower vases, and at the center, quadrangular geometric patterns.

It opens with a drop-leaf and stands on straight feet.

Certosina is a decorative art technique widely used during the Italian Renaissance. Similar to marquetry, it uses small pieces of wood, bone, metal or mother-of-pearl to create inlaid geometric patterns on wood. The term comes from Certosa Church in Pavia, where the technique was used in ornamenting an altarpiece.
