Inro - Japanese lacquer Togidashi, of a cat and rat. Japan Edo

Inro – Japanese lacquer urushi of a Roiro ground and Aogai Nashiji. On the face, with a Togidashi technique, a cat is creeping into a room throught a circular bamboo cross-strutted window, the struts secured with strands of creeper ; live bamboo is visible outside in the garden. On the reverse, a rat, the object of the cat’s attention, crouches at the foot of a Chinese table, upon which stands an incense bruner. With his Ojime and a gold silk cord. Heigth : 9,2 cm. Japan Edo (1603-1868) End of 18th, early 19th century. Provenance : Mike & Hiroko Dean ‘s Collection, book by Barry Davis Oriental Art, 2002.
