Pair of neo-classical bronze candelabra circa 1780

Pair of candelabra covered in finely chiseled bronze and gilt with four lights.
The circular bases adorned with laurel tori, fluted barrels decorated with acanthus leaves and supporting leeks with palmettos and gadroons.
Encircled in the bobeches, bouquets whose branches architectured in staples bear three arms of light.
In the center a cassolette in the antique discovers a fourth light when one removes the sparkling bronze which serves as a snuffer.

Very nice quality of carving.

Perfect state of conservation, in its old gilt of origin with mercury.

Rare in its complete version, with two bouquets of lights and two snuffers.

Parisian work of Louis XVI period around 1780.

Height: 41, 5 cm

Our pair of candelabra is similar to the drawings of the ornamentalist Jean Charles Delafosse (1734-1791).
Emblematic figure of the neoclassical current that touches France since the 1760s with the appearance of Greek taste, he is the author of multiple drawings of torches, cassolettes, sconces ... which reinterpret the ancient forms and whose success was colossal, far beyond the borders of France.

A very close pair is kept on the fireplace in the dining room of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Lyon.
A pair belonging to the national furniture is in deposit at the Palace of Versailles.
Another pair was sold on June 13, 2013 sale Artcurial Paris lot 143 (9743 euros)
