Pair of 18th century ormolu Chenets

A rare pair of ormolu Chenets with figures of Ganymede and Aegina, each borne on the back of Jupiter in the form of an eagle rising from flames.

Ganymede wears loose draperies over his loins and holds a wine cup in his raised right hand, while Aegina wears a full skirt and raisesher right arm in an attitude of trepidation.

The eagle in the Ganymede group grasps a thunderbolt in its left talon.
The four corner supports are in the form of dragons' heads resting directly on fluted scroll feet; from behind the dragons' necks, acanthus foliage rises to cover the corners of the platform.
