Transition commode stamped M. CRIAERD or CRIARD, middle of 18th century

Elegant commode "sauteuse", curved, in amaranth and tulip-wood veneer opening two rows of drawers with cross. It rests on four curved legs. Rococo bronzes garniture such as lock entrances, pull handles, clogs and cul-de-lampe.

Stamped M. CRIARD.

Transition style, middle of 18th century.

Beautiful furniture in good old conditions. Irregular discolourations on the veneer, some non-graceful veneer restorations. It can be carried out a restoration consisting of a replacement of the varnish, according to the technique of filled-waxed or varnished buffer, with no extra charge.

ANTOINE-MATHIEU CRIAERD: 1724-1787, received as master on April 22, 1747

Antoine-Mathieu Criaerd, or Criard, is the son of the great cabinet maker Mathieu Criard. Received as master in 1747, Antoine-Mathieu will open his ate, to link two years later. He moved successively rue de Charenton, rue de Richelieu then rue Saint-Thomas-du-Louvre, before settling permanently rue du Bac where he succeeds his colleague Charles Chevalier.

He produces Transition style and especially Louis XV furniture, beautiful quality, veneer of rosewood, purple wood or amaranth. It uses leaf veneer, sometimes inlaid with flowers or branches in shades. We don't find furniture in Louis XVI style, which would try to prove that Antoine-Mathieu Criard has ended early his business.
