A pair of watercoloured drawings by Bocquet for the opera Alexander in India, creation at the Paris Opera on August 26th 1783, the music by Nicolas-Jean Lefroid de Méreaux, the libretto by Morel de Chédeville after the play by Racine and a libretto by Metastasio (for the same opera by Piccini written in 1758 and reworked in 1774).
Louis René Boquet (or Bocquet) born in Paris in 1717, died in 1814, painter and designer of all the theatre and ballet costumes for the court of France, as inspector and director of the “Menus plaisirs” for king Louis XVI at Versailles and Fontainebleau. He was the favorite designer of costumes and decors of Louis XV and Louis XVI for festivities, marriages and coronation.
