Pair of Satinwood Corner Cupboards

Signed by Hubert HANSEN (Master in 1747)
Transition Period, Louis XV-Louis XVI (1760-1774)
Dimensions: H. 34 ¾ in. (88 cm) x W. 26 ¾ in. (68 cm) x D. 19 ¾ in. (50 cm)

This matching pair of satinwood and amaranth corner cupboards boasts beautiful marquetry of flowers and foliage inlaid upon a blazon-shaped background. The cupboards open via one front-facing door. All of the interior shelving is original from the 18th century, which is rather rare, as many pieces like these had their shelves changed during the 19th century. The decorative scheme of gilded bronze ornaments is discrete, limited to a small door handle and mounts on the three feet. The top of the cupboards is hewn in buttery Brèche d’Alep marble.

Cabinet-maker: Hubert Hansen
Hubert Hansen was nominated master on June 12, 1747. His studio was located on rue de Charenton in Paris, where he made many beautifully-crafted Louis XV furnishings. He died on October 5, 1756.
