Michiel van Mierevelt was one of the most prominent portrait painters in Delft in the late16 and early 17th century. He also had a huge workshop.
These sitters are probably the merchant Johan van de Luffel and his wife Anna de Neve, together they had 9 children.
He died in 1655 and she died in 1669.
Both panels bear original texts on the back reading 'De Luffel'.
The condition is good, even very good. The details in the black silk are still very well conserved. Housed in two 19th century black beautiful frames.
The man is dated 1624, the lady 1626.
Johan is 27 when this portrait was made.
