Roger PARENT (1881-1986): Impressionist painter then fauviste of figures, landscapes and still lifes. Training in Paris, the National School of Fine Arts and the free workshop of rue Marcadet where he meets Pierre Mac Orlan and Suzanne Valadon. Begins in Paris in 1904 at the Salon des Independants. Settles in Brussels in 1902. Resides again in Paris between 1910 and 1914 where he practices photography. First solo exhibition at the Georges Giroux Gallery in 1921. Participates in the Kunst van Heden exhibition (Contemporary Art, 1922) and the Venice Biennale (1922). Belongs to the group of Brabant fauvists. Evolves towards a stylized and decorative painting of Cubist inspiration. Member of the Circle of XV. Retrospectives at Saint-Denis in 1971 (Municipal Museum), in Brussels in 1963 (Baron René Steens gallery), in Beersel in 1987 (Herman Teirlinckgalerij) and in Uccle in 1998 (Candelaershuys). Work at the Museum of Ixelles.
