A beautiful terra-cotta sculptural group depicting the Birth of Venus, emerging from a giant scallop shell, as pure and as perfect as a pearl. The scallop shell is carried by two dolphins whose rostrums are joined to the front and whose tails are entwined at the back.
The Southern Netherlands, influenced by the Italian art. Probably Antwerp. 2nd half of the 17th century.
