Large framed Christ with Mary Magdalene, Nancy school of the late seventeenth century, workshop of Caesar Bagard.
Superb group of the School of Nancy, attributed to the Lorraine master César Bagard (1620-1709), author of several similar groups in which Christ on the cross is surrounded by holy figures, usually the Virgin and St John, sometimes replaced by an angel or St. Mary Magdalene.
This group was perhaps accompanied by a large Saint John like the one we have in our collection.
Original St. Lucia wood frame carved with acanthus leaves, and gilded posteriorly. Restoration to the gilding, and lacks due to of xylophages.
Very good state. The figures show remains of gilding.
