Verdure tapestry with dogs and birds, Arras, 18th century

Arras
Workshop of Jean-Baptiste Plantez
Mid 18th century
Woven in silks and wools

With the following inscription : "Fait Arras par Jean Baptiste Plantez"

Tapestries made in Arras are extremely rare on the market. Arras was one of the most productive weaving centers during 15th century but its activity decreased over the centuries for the benefit of Lille.

Jean-Baptiste Plantez worked in Lille at Guillaume Werniers's before seting up on his own workshop in Arras in 1746.

Very good overall condition.
