Peter Paul Rubens owned six still lifes by Frans Ykens in his collection. Ykens was a pupil of his uncle, Osias Beert I. We recognize his influence in our carefully detailed still life.
Ykens moved from Antwerp to Brussels at the age of 64; he died there around 1692, at the age of 90.
