A lacquered box - RYOSHIBAKO of standard rectangular form entirely covered in black urushi lacquer and decorated mainly in gold and silver hiramaki-e, takamaki-e and togidashi maki-e and Kirigane.
The outside depicting a beautiful tranditionnal landscape, with pines, mountains, and pagodas; whereas the indside depicting a travel scene with characters and a cart. Japan, end of Meiji, early Taisho era (1868 - 1926) end of 19th, early 20th century
