Pair of oil on copper paintings by Karel Breydel.
Both works are signed and in perfect condition.
Presented in blackened wooden frames (20th century).
These oils on copper are larger than the usual size of Breydel.
They were sold in Amsterdam at Christies in the early nineties for approximately 40,000 euros.
We can see the Battle of Trencin in 1708, between the Kurucs, Hungarian separatists and the Austrian Habsburgs. On both sides we can see Palffy account, the commander of the Austrian army.
It is quite possible that he ordered these two paintings from Breydel, who at that time was one of the best painters of active battles in Flanders.
