Important "romayne" panel with the portrait of Julius Caesar, circa 1530.

An important oak "romayne" panel, carved in relief with the effigy of Julius Caesar in profile. The head of the emperor, with accurately detailed hair and hair band, is placed in a large laurel wreath with ribbons and bows which is placed on plinth.

The panel is composed of two planks of oak wood that are connected to the back with a single dovetail joint.

France (Normandy or Brittany). Renaissance era. Circa 1530.
