The subject, the touch and the point of view are signs of an impressionist painter. The typical scene, the rural and anecdotal subject, which shows without really showing, referring a curious point of view to a worked perspective testify of the talent of the painter. Rather than the subject, he favors the atmosphere.

Pierre Vauthier and his brother Réné, also a landscape painter, were born in Pernambuco, Brazil, to French parents. Impressionist painter, student, like his brother, Maxime Lalanne, he debuted at the Paris Salon in 1874. Pierre Vauthier quickly meets success. Hailed by criticism, he won numerous awards. He is a member of the Society of French Artists in 1883, obtains honorable mention at the Salon of 1884, receives the knight medal of the Legion of Honor in 1895.
He is one of the painters of his generation who participates in the Exhibition Universal of 1889 and that of Paris, in 1900.

He paints landscapes of the Paris region. Attracted by the charm of both city and country living in the suburbs, he returns the sweetness and good humor in paintings bathed in a delicate light.
In our painting, the painter dwells on a typical landscape of the Parisian bourgeoisie; the island of Grande Jatte. Pleasure go there on Sundays, to enjoy the air and nature outside the industrial capital. Here, a couple sits on the banks, a stroller, blue spot, appears on the way. The painter represents the wooden barge, operating manually on pulley, which allows to cross the Seine from one bank to the bank island.
