The scenery depicts the seven divinities of happiness aboard their ship Takarabune ("treasure ship"). This iconography is traditionally associated with the celebrations of the first three days of the New Year, especially in the Edo era. The crane and the turtle, symbols of longevity and happiness, are represented on both sides of the tsuba.
