Iron Tsuba nagamarugata - Waves and Shachihoko

Iron saber guard, nagamarugata shaped (oval), decorated with takazogan gold and silver.
The decoration represents a Shachihoko as well as waves.
Shachihoko is a monster from Japanese folklore. It has a dragon's head and a carp body. It has the power to cause rain and this ability is used by Japanese architects, who did not hesitate to decorate the roof cornices of many monuments of Shachihoko statues.
Period: End Edo.
