A Japanese "bachi", a refined plectrum that was used to play the "shamisen",
a Japanese stringed instrument similar to a lute. It is carving in the shape of a ginkgo o tree leaf. It is made from layered tortoiseshell with an ivory end and retaining its original wooden protection cap.
