Flat, rectangular case for holding writing utensils in gold, enamel and steel. A button serves to open the hinged lid. The lid features an intricately sculpted motto which reads “Souvenir d'amitié”. The lower part is adorned on its two sides of oval medallions. On one side is presented an altar surmounted by two doves bearing a wreath of flowers. A quiver and a torch are arranged at the foot of the altar. On the other side is presented a flower basket and tools of gardeners surmounted by two doves. Its gold-coloured scenes are finely chiseled and detached on a colorful steel background. These medallions are framed with wreaths of flowers. A system allows to lift these medallions and hide portraits of the loved one or a strand of hair.
This inscription underscores the sentimental value that such a gift carried. On the inside of the case are two ivory plates and a pencil with gold mounting.
