Bronze "situla" or holy water pail

A beautiful holy water pail or "situla" with conical , ribbed body and two serrated hinges, standing on a wide round base. The underside has retained the original lathe turning center point. The bronze has an exceptional dark excavation patina Underneath there is the original label of the Théodore collection in Lille. Emile Théodore was the curator of Lille’s Palais des Beaux-Arts since 1912 to 1937. Southern Netherlands. Gothic. 15th century. Dimensions: height 10,5cm ; diameter (top) 9cm ; diameter (bottom) 8cm
