Quadratura decoration project, Italian school circa 1640-1650
Angelo Michele Colonna or Agostino Mitelli workshop
Ink drawing with brown and green wash painting on laid paper, this project presents an elevation of mural decor topped with a ceiling designed with a different perspective, the sheet to be folded to produce the expected effect.
The ceiling can be compared to the rooms of the private audience (Udenzia privata) of the Pitti Palace in Florence (https://www.wga.hu/art/c/colonna/pitti4.jpg) or the Sala Urbana of the Palazzo d Accursio of Bologna. The construction of the wall decor is also close to the great hall of the Ducal Palace of Sassuolo. The general style, but also the details like the ornaments place this sheet in the entourage of Colonna and Mitelli, probably of their workshop.
