Henry Picou (1824-1895) - Allegory of the game

Beautiful oil on canvas, a pair, representing the allegory of the game.

Henry Picou (1824-1895), a French painter who mainly expressed himself through the painting of history, portraiture and genre scenes.
Henry-Pierre Picou is from Nantes, where his father and grandfather were famous artists. He is destined very quickly to the job of painter and his parents make him enter at the age of twelve, in the studio of the painter Paul Delaroche. He then follows the teaching of Charles Gleyre, at the Royal School of Fine Arts in Paris. In Paris, he becomes associated with young painters of his age who are passionate about the renewal of history painting through recent discoveries on Greek and Roman antiquity.
