An important sculptural bust of the Virgin & child in polychrome painted walnut, whereby Mary is carrying a scantily dressed baby Jesus on her right hand. In her left hand she originally held a scepter. She is dressed in a garment with typical deep vertical folds, covered by a mantle. In the middle of her bust there is a vertical recess that originally contained a relic. Originally this bust was resting on a plinth.
This sculpture can be attributed to the circle of the master of Koudewater, by the typical facial expressions, the vertical folds, the constricted waist etc. For comparison see the collection of sculptures by the same master in the collection of the Rijksmuseum.
