Gothic brass alms dish with thistles, Nuremberg Late 15th century

A rare brass alms dish or so-called "Omphalosschüssel" decorated with a large gothic quatrefoil with four thistles in between, each with two large leafs and tiny stylized flowers, deriving from ribbed planters, placed around a central raised boss. Repoussé-work brass with a wide flattened rim. Nuremberg. Gothic. Late 15th century. References: "Messing 15.-17. Jahrhundert" by Hermann P. Lockner, page 37-38, images 20, 21 and 22. Dimensions: diameter 39cm ; depth 7cm In very good condition with a beautiful, original brown patina to the back.
