Dehua porcelain depicting Guan Yin, late 18th century

Large figure of Guanyin in Dehua porcelain depicting Guan Yin, a Buddhist deity revered as the goddess of mercy, whose name is the abbreviation of the term translatable with "She who listens to the cries of the world". Some Buddhists believe that when someone from the same religious beliefs leaves earthly life, they are placed by Guan Yin in a lotus flower and then returned home to the pure land of Sukhavat.
