An important tortoiseshell, pewter and brass-inlaid première partie
Boulle marquetry and ebony Bureau Mazarin

attributed to Nicolas Sageot (1666 - 1731)
Louis XIV period, early 18th Century

The brass-bound moulded rectangular top centred by a scene with characters of the Commedia dell'Arte beneath a baldachino among grotesque interlaced strapwork, scrolls, foliage, dancing figures and mythical birds in the manner of Jean Bérain, above seven drawers
flanking a recessed kneehole with a cupboard door on eight X-scrolled legs joined by waved X-form stretchers and toupie feet.

The panelled sides conformingly-inlaid with a hunting scene representing
Diana with her two hounds.

Nicolas Sageot(1666 - 8 January 1731)
Master in 1706
