Small Louis XV cartel, Paris circa 1765

Small violin-shaped cartel decorated with varnish martin polychrome flowers on a green background for the box and decor of garden attributes, birds, ribbons, basket ... for the "cul de lampe".
Beautiful ornamentation of Rococo bronzes.
The dial with thirteen enamel plates and the back of the movement signed "Mareau à Orléans"
The oak box stamped A.J Jollain.
Original wire movement, perfect condition (revised by our watchmaker).
Winding and opening keys of the original dial.

Parisian work of Louis XV period around 1765.

Total height: 72 cm
Box: Height: 52 cm, Width: 26 cm
Lamp Ass: Height: 20 cm; Width: 32 cm

Adrien Jérome Jollain, Parisian cabinetmaker received master August 1st 1763.
Coming from a family of watchmakers, he mainly produced boxes of cartels and clocks, which were probably sold with unsigned family movements to Province dealers.
The latter simply affixed their names and resold the works.
Indeed we find his stamp on cartels bearing watchmaking brands Besançon, Versailles, Orleans, Auxerre ...
But the quality of movements and enamelled dials are undeniably Parisian.
It is quite funny to note that our watchmaker Orléanais has not managed to engrave his entire name, the rear plate being very small.

Our opinion:

The very small size of our cartel makes it a rather rare piece.
Designed to adorn an alcove (recess in the wall where the beds stood in the 18th century) it measures barely 72 cm placed on his console.
Generally equipped with a small dial consisting of a single piece of enamel, our model has been the focus of attention, with its miniature dial with thirteen pieces of enamel, its decor to the attributes of the garden and its lamp in the antique at the top, it sports the most beautiful tricks in fashion at the end of the reign of Louis XV.
Reduced size, with its original varnish in good condition and its movement in perfect working order it bears the stamp of a great Parisian master, undeniable pledge of quality.
